Unlocking
and Renewing Your License In Indigo Backup v.4
The
following article describes how to Unlock your copy of Indigo
Backup v.4 or renew your current license. If you are in a group
of users using Indigo Backup you should consider using remote
licensing through Indigo Grid which greatly simplifies licensing
- speak to your administrator about this option or read the
Setting Up Indigo Backup For Corporate
Networks Tutorial and contact us.
PLEASE
NOTE THAT THE LATEST VERSION OF INDIGO BACKUP, INDIGO TRINITY
BACKUP v.5, HUGELY SIMPLIFIES UNLOCKING AND RENEWAL BY USING
AN AUTOMATIC WEB SERVICES INTERFACE. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU UPGRADE
TO THIS SYSTEM BY DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING INDIGO TRINITY
BACKUP FROM THIS WEBSITE.
If you are getting pop-up messages
saying that you should renew your license then you need to get a
new unlock code and enter this on the about page of the software
(click about on the main interface, then click the key icon on the
about page that pops up). First you need to decide whether you need
a license renewal or a first time license. If you have been using
the software for a year and have not had your computer upgraded,
or a new disc installed, then you will need a license renewal. If
you have just reinstalled the software on a new disk or have installed
it for the first time then you will need a first time license.
To get a unlock code (license) follow the following
steps:
My Indigo section of the Indigo Prime site and register for a My Indigo account
2. Go back to the Indigo Backup software and open the interface, click About to display the About Page. You need to then copy down EXACTLY the serial number (S/N) and either the Issue Date or Expiry Date. If you are renewing a license then you need to use the Expiry Date, if you are just getting a first time license then use the Issue Date. If your software has already expired and stopped working, then use the Issue date in all cases.
3. Once you have received you’re My Indigo account login by email (step 1) or if you already have one, go back to the My Indigo section section of the Indigo Prime site. Log into you’re My Indigo account. After you have logged in, near the bottom of the page on your My Indigo account, you will find a form for generating Unlock Codes. Enter the details that you copied down from the software (step 2) into this form. Click the button on the form to generate your Unlock Code which will be sent to you by email.
4. If you are renewing your license then the following steps must be performed AFTER the software has expired. Alternatively you can use a Local License File to insure uninterrupted use (see the Tutorial below or the Indigo Backup software's installed help file under Local License Files)
5. Once you have your Unlock Code you need to go back to the About page on the software and click the Key icon. You need to change the User Level shown on the page that is then displayed to that which you received by email with your Unlock Code (usually Super User). Finally enter the Unlock Code that you were sent in groups of 4 in the boxes at the bottom of the page. Click Enter and you should see a message saying that you are registered.
6. Click Save Changes on the software's interface and then close the software completely by right clicking the icon next to your computers clock and clicking close.
7. Restart the software by clicking Start, then
Programs, then Indigo Backup, then Indigo Backup.
8. You should now be fully registered
Creating
a Local License File
Local license files are used when you are not
on a Indigo Grid network and need to insure uninterrupted use.
A Local License file acts in the same way as the Remote License
Files automatically created by Indigo Grid. The Local License
file contains your unlock code for your next license and sits
in the Indigo Backup program directory. When your current Indigo
Backup license expires, the software goes searching for this
file and reads it. If the details in the Local License file
are correct then Indigo backup will automatically renew your
current license.
Creating a Local License File:
1. Open Notepad. You can do this by clicking
Start, then Run, then typing 'Notepad' then clicking OK. Notepad
is a little like a very simple version of Microsoft Word, but
it will allow you to save whatever you type into it as almost
any file type. In this case we will be saving what you type
as a '*.ini' file.
2. You should already
have been sent your new license details by us in an email. If
not generate your new license details/unlock code using the
procedure shown in the first part of this tutorial.
3. Copy and paste your license details in the
following format to Notepad.
Line 1 = Issue Date
of License Code you were sent (this would normally be the date
when your current license expires).
Line 2 = The serial number of the Unlock
Code you were sent.
Line 3 = User Level
of the Unlock Code you were sent (This is case sensitive)
Line 4 = The Unlock
Code you were sent (This is case sensitive)
You should now have something similar to the
following set of lines in Notepad:
4. Now you need to save this
to the 'c:\program files\indigo backup\ program directory as a
file called Indigo.lic. You can do this quite simply. In Notepad
click File, then Save As and this will present the save as dialog
box shown below.
5. Now you have the Save As dialog
up, you now need to change the Save as Type option in the dialog
to All Files as shown above. If you do not do this the file will
be saved as Indigo.lic.txt! Now change the save as File Name to
'Indigo.lic' as shown above. Finally navigate using the dialog
box until you are saving the file to the 'c:\program files\indigo
backup' folder and then click Save.
6. You should now check if you
have been successful and saved an Indigo.lic file. Click Start,
then Run, then type 'c:\program files\indigo backup' then click
OK (see above). You should now see the Indigo Backup program directory
pop up on the screen as shown below. Alternatively you can navigate
to the Indigo backup program directory using Windows Explorer
or My Computer. Inside this directory you should find the Indigo.lic
file that you just saved if you were successful.
7. That's it! You can now close
Notepad. You will still get pop-up messages saying your backup
will expire unless you choose to cancel them, however, when your
license does expire the license in the Indigo.lic file will be
read and your system will be updated.
